Comentatiat – General Election Day 1

Waking up today and learning, for I was on holiday and slept in late, that there will be a General Election in the coming months was such a thrill that I put it to the darkest recess of my mind. Why worry? I’m in my home trying to relax for the first time in months, I will not allow you to ruin this Mrs May. However after a day of footering and pottering to be proud of, I’ve found myself mulling over the next thankless political question asked of us by the overlords. So far I am here from the boiling capital, I did think to become inspired and my inspiration was thus- for dinner we shall have a home cooked Lamb Dhansak, and we did and it was fine. And later, I was inspired again, perhaps it was the fresh Scottish air and cold water, inspiring me twice in one day – I should commentate the election. I’ve previously declared my love for Hunter S Thomson, perhaps I can channel a part of him. Or at least attempt to do part of both. Tomorrow, I return to the capital where the debate will be won and lost. But what will the debate look like? Why now? What’s important?
From what I can gather there are a few reasons to call the election; kick Corbyn while he is down, cement an unelected leaders place with a sham election being the main candidates. Other front runners have included the theory that ol’ Theresa can mellow the hard brexit component of her party and the fervour for a hard brexit by losing ground to Lib Dem and Labour. This is all gleened briefly from headlines and television. Much like the average member of the electorate. Overwhelmingly the coverage has been negative. Theresa May promised there will be no election, we have an election. Things which we are promised have not been likely for a while now though so why did we believe her. (Independence, Miliband, Tory Majority, Corbyn Leadership, Brexit, Trump. Hibernian winning the Scottish Cup.

The next big issue, which affects myself personally, is Scotland. Theresa May is determined to deny Scotland their democratic right, will this damage her. Will Labour grow in Scotland again? Will the Tories fancy a few seats or will LibDem come back from beyond ? Most likely is that the SNP will hold on and will be left exactly where we are… – who knows where? All that seems very evident as I realise the task before me, in covering this next fiasco, is that it is all seemingly false, especially that which is true. Anyway, if you are joining me over the coming weeks, welcome. I will try to keep the tone as morose as possible. I may even deviate onto the downright depressing. Perhaps I’ll waffle about other things to keep it light- sport, art, music, books etc. Who knows?! It’s only day one and I’m regretting this. I wonder if Theresa May is thinking the same.
